Puerto Rico Governor Calls for Audit of Outstanding Debt

Puerto Rico Governor Pedro Pierluisi will audit the island’s billions in debt to determine what portion is “legitimate” as the U.S. territory faces a Feb. 10 deadline to present the last major restructuring plan of its more than three-year bankruptcy.

In an interview with El Nuevo Dia published Friday, Pierluisi said he had ordered finance chief Omar Marrero to analyze the debt. His office later confirmed the decision.
