DISTRESSED DAILY: Windstream, Uniti Lease Fight May Go to Court

As Windstream Holdings Inc. and Uniti Group Inc. may soon find out, sometimes you have to go to court.

  • The bankrupt telecom company and the real estate investment trust, created through a spin-out of some of Windstream’s infrastructure assets, have yet to come to an accord in mediation over how to modify their $650 million-a-year lease agreement.
    • Barring a last-minute deal over the contract which Windstream wants to renegotiate to pay less to use Uniti’s wireline network, a trial is set to start March 2.
