Boy Scouts Revise Bankruptcy Plan Treatment of Mormon Church

Boy Scouts of America has scaled back legal protections for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in a modified reorganization plan to resolve decades worth of sex abuse allegations.

Under the new plan, the Mormon church, as it’s colloquially called, will no longer be entitled to sweeping liability releases and will not contribute $250 million to a settlement trust, according to Aug. 12 filings in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The church has sponsored Scouting activities and was named as a defendant in some abuse lawsuits.
