Swedish Inquiry Pours Cold Water on Digital Krona Prospects (1)

Swedish authorities are taking a breather from the global race toward central-bank issued digital currencies in response to dwindling use of cash.

The Nordic country currently has no need for a digital central-bank issued currency, and the Riksbank should reconsider its plans for an e-krona, a government-appointed inquiry said on Friday. The recommendations of the inquiry, launched in 2020, are expected to form the basis for a government decision on whether or not to mandate the central bank to create an e-krona.
