US-Mexico Transmigrante Car Shippers Face DOJ Monopoly Charges (1)

The Justice Department unsealed charges of price fixing, extortion and monopolization against a dozen people involved in transmigrante cross-border resale of cars from the US to Central America.

Members of the group allegedly implemented price fixing and market allocation agreements among themselves for services enabling the sale of used vehicles transported from the US through Mexico for resale in Central America over more than a decade, the Justice Department’s antitrust division said in a statement Tuesday. Business owners who refused to participate faced threats, intimidation and violence, the DOJ said.
