Tyson, Pilgrim’s, Wholesalers Get OK for $155 Million Settlement

Tyson Foods Inc. and Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. escaped part of a sprawling antitrust case over their alleged role in an industrywide scheme to fix broiler chicken prices, when a federal judge in Chicago approved their $155 million class action settlement with wholesalers.

Judge Thomas M. Durkin signed off Tuesday on the agreement, which calls for payments of $80 million by Tyson and $75 million by Pilgrim’s, a subsidiary of Brazilian meatpacking giant JBS SA. He called the deal “fair, reasonable, and adequate,” noting that no class member had objected to it.
