FTC to Protect Gig Workers From Deceptive Company Practices (1)

The Federal Trade Commission will crack down on problems facing gig workers, including deception about pay and hours, unfair contract terms, and anticompetitive wage fixing.

The agency Thursday characterized its new policy as an effort to protect workers and consumers. The commission voted 3-2 to adopt the measure.

“We are fully committed to coordinating our consumer protection and competition enforcement efforts within the FTC as well as working with other agencies across the government to ensure gig workers are treated fairly,” said Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, in a Thursday statement.
