Biden Wage Regulator Pick Gets Surprise OK From Senate Panel (1)

The Senate labor panel advanced David Weil’s nomination to be the nation’s top wage-hour regulator, a surprise outcome after the committee’s tie vote last year stalled him for months.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 11-10 Thursday in favor of Weil to be Wage and Hour Division administrator. When he appeared before the panel last year, the tie vote broke down along party lines. This time, all 11 Democrats voted for him, 10 Republicans were opposed, and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was absent, allowing Weil to squeak by.
