Miller Mendel Inc. is facing federal antitrust litigation in Sacramento, Calif., over claims it cornered the market for public safety background investigation software by launching a wave of bogus patent infringement cases against police departments that use competing technology.
The lawsuit accuses Miller Mendel of repeatedly suing police and municipal clients of Guardian Alliance Technologies Inc., which entered the industry in 2018. The baseless court cases have allegedly forced Guardian to spend significant sums honoring its indemnification agreements with its customers.
